Step 1
mEq =(mg x valence)/(Mol.weight)
=(600 mg × 1)/74 = 8.1 mEq of Li2CO3
Step 2
Upon dissociation of 1 mEq of Li2CO3 will give 2 mEq of Li+ (one carbonate) because:
Li2CO3 ----> 2Li+ +CO3
Step 3
Therefore, patient will receive 2 x 8.1 = 16.2 mEq of Li+
